With the help of his mother-in-law, Maria Hamilton, a nurse who was also attending the party, Chris did what he could to help.
“When we got over to Valerie it was immediately clear she needed urgent first aid. Maria and I introduced ourselves to the first responder and told him we were nurses. There was no pulse present, so I started CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation),” he said.
“A staff member of Hangdog was on the phone, calling the ambulance. I continued CPR for I think 15 to 20 minutes until the paramedics arrived and took over. They worked on Valerie for I think another 15 to 20 minutes, at which point they took her to hospital.”
Chris and Maria’s quick response not only saved Valerie’s life but helped her to defy the odds and make an extraordinary recovery with no brain injury.

Sir Christopher Maxwell Snowden, FRS, , FIET (born 1956) is a British electronic engineer and academic. He was the former Vice-Chancellor of Surrey University (2005–2015), and of the University of Southampton (2015–2019). He was president of Universities UK for a two-year term until 31 July 2015.[1][2] He is currently the chairman of the ERA Foundation.[3]

[edit]Snowden studied electronic and electrical engineering at the University of Leeds, gaining a BSc in 1977, and an MSc and PhD in 1982. His PhD involved microwave oscillators for radar applications and semiconductor device modelling. He conducted his PhD research at Racal-MESL Ltd near Edinburgh in Scotland as well as at the University of Leeds.[4]
From 1977-78, Snowden was an application engineer for Mullard Applications Laboratory. He lectured at the Department of Electronics in the University of York from 1982 to 1983. From 1983 to 2005 he was a member of staff at the University of Leeds, his former alma mater, working in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and becoming professor of microwave eng
